SBS Waterproofing Membrane

SBS waterproofing membrane uses styrene-butadiene-styrene block copolymer modified bitumen as coating and polyester or fiberglass mat as reinforcement. It combines rubber elasticity with bitumen waterproofing, offering excellent low-temperature flexibility down, making it ideal for cold regions and winter construction. High fatigue resistance and crack resistance allow it to adapt to substrate deformation. Torch-on application ensures reliable seams. Widely used in roofs, basements, reservoirs, tunnels, etc., our SBS membranes are available in various thicknesses and surfacing (e.g., mineral slate, aluminum foil) to meet durability and aesthetic needs, serving as a classic choice for building waterproofing.

Core Advantages of SBS Waterproofing Membrane

Excellent Low-Temperature Flexibility

SBS modification gives the membrane outstanding flexibility in cold conditions, allowing it to remain pliable and crack-free even at temperatures well below freezing. This property is essential for winter construction projects and buildings in cold climates, where ordinary membranes would become brittle and fail. The material bends and conforms to substrate movements without breaking, ensuring continuous protection throughout seasonal temperature changes.

Superior Elasticity and Fatigue Resistance

The SBS polymer network provides rubber-like elasticity, enabling the membrane to stretch and recover with structural movements, vibrations and settlements. This elasticity, combined with high fatigue resistance, allows it to withstand repeated stress cycles without cracking or losing performance. The membrane effectively bridges existing and future cracks in the substrate, maintaining a waterproof barrier even as buildings shift and settle over time.

Suitable Applications for SBS Waterproofing Membrane

Cold Climate Building Envelopes

SBS membranes are widely specified for roofs, basements and exterior walls in regions with harsh winters and freeze-thaw cycles. Their low-temperature flexibility ensures they remain intact when temperatures drop, preventing water ingress through brittle cracks. They perform reliably on both residential and commercial buildings in northern climates, providing year-round protection against snow, ice and freezing rain.

Dynamic Infrastructure Projects

Bridges, tunnels, parking structures and railway platforms benefit from SBS membranes' ability to accommodate constant vibration and movement. These structures experience continuous stress from traffic loads and thermal expansion, requiring waterproofing that can flex and recover repeatedly. SBS membranes bond firmly to concrete and steel substrates, creating a durable barrier that extends the service life of critical infrastructure while reducing maintenance frequency.

Key Installation Considerations for SBS Waterproofing Membrane

SBS membranes are torch-applied, so quality control is critical. The substrate must be firm, flat, dry and clean, with primer for adhesion. Details like corners and pipes need extra reinforcement. Install with proper laps following water flow. Heat evenly to fully melt bitumen, squeezing out a bead at laps for sealing. Water test to verify performance. Protect finished work from damage. Strict adherence to specifications ensures full performance.
